Assignment #11

<h2 style=”background-color: lightBlue; font-size:30px; border:2px solid green;”>Meta Descriptions and Keywords</h2>

Many search engines display the Meta description
as part of the results page. If a Meta description
is not provided, many search engines typically
display the first 50-70 words of a document.
Unfortunately, the header of a document might only
contain information about the author and hence it
would less likely be viewed. By providing a Meta description,
a search engine will more likely display a summary of the
document rather than simply the first few sentences.

<p>
<a style=”color:red; text-decoration: none;”href=”http://www.yoast.com”>Example of a Meta description</a>
<p>
<a style=”color:purple; text-decoration: underline;”href=”http://www.yoast.com”>Example of keywords</a>

<h2 style=”background-color: lightBlue; font-size:30px; border:2px solid green;”>Page Titles</h2>

<p style=”color:green; font-size:22px;”>
Most search engines rank the information in the title of a
document higher than the information found in the
body of a document. Hence, it is important that a
descriptive title be provided for each document.
For example, if this document were placed on the Web,
either one of the following titles below would describe
this document. However, the longer title not only tells
the user exactly what to expect when this document is
viewed, but since it contains more keywords, it would
also more likely be retrieved and then viewed.

Assignment #31

SEO, also known as Search Engine Optimization, is a method of optimizing your website or directory page to be the best example of a search result. When someone in your area searches for “best barber near me”, the top result to pull up (non-paid) will be given to the individual that has the best SEO on their directory page. There is a lot that goes into SEO from keyword research to page speed and requires constant research and updating to stay relevant. Sadly, regardless of how much SEO you do to your website or directory, it doesn’t guarantee you will even show up any search engine. For example, large corporations spend tens of thousands of dollars every year on their SEO alongside their well-known presence in the virtual world which allows them to be up top. If I were to try and compete with any large business-like Wal-Mart or Target, I would not only have to have tons of research into my SEO, but also have people on the internet linking my website on theirs which is another huge aspect to SEO. Anyone in SEO planning always uses the iceberg example to explain what goes into SEO; your keyword research and page speed is the tip of the iceberg then all the other backend stuff such as title tags, word length, backlinking and so many other little things make up the biggest portion when put together.
